ADVISORY

  • Always follow your guide’s instructions and guidelines.
  • Stay in the car during game drives except at designated areas where you are allowed to get out
  • Never walk off far to urinate behind a bush – ask for advice from your guide about where to go.
  • Don't stand up in the car, hang out of the window or sit on the roof.
  • Don't talk or laugh too loud.
  • Stay close to your guide and group on a walking safari and always walk in single line
  • Watch where you put your feet while walking in the bush.
  • Never run or jog in a wildlife area as it entices predators to attack. For the same reason, never run away from a predator when confronted. Instead ask your guide for help and instructions or slowly walk backwards while facing the predator.
  • Never walk between a hippo and water. It may panic and charge because its safety route to the water is blocked.
  • Cover your arms and legs in the evening and use insect repellent to protect against mosquitoes.
  • Wear a hat, use sunscreen and drink plenty of water.
  • Don't wear bright and colorful colours and do not wear very strong perfume. This is especially true for walking safaris and, to a lesser extent, for other wildlife viewing activities. In tsetse-fly areas it is recommended not to wear dark-colored clothing – such as black or dark blue – since it attracts these stinging flies. Bring warm clothes for morning game drives in open vehicles during the cold months of June, July and August.
  • Great apes are susceptible to human diseases. Never visit if you are ill and turn away if you need to cough.
  • If you need to go to the toilet, dig a hole in the ground and cover it up if you need to go to the toilet.
  • Always keep the recommended distance (at least 5 meters / 15 feet) between you and the primates. Back off if the animals approach you to close that distance.
  • Slowly back off if any chimpanzee or gorilla shows aggression towards you.
  • If a gorilla charges follow the guides example (crouch down slowly, do not look the gorillas directly in the eyes and wait for the animals to pass).
  • Never look large primates in the eyes.
  • Flash photography is not allowed
  • Don't make any quick movements.
  • Never block the path of chimps or gorillas when they are walking.
  • Never take food or drink close to chimps or gorillas. You can leave your daypack behind with the trackers when you approach the animals.
  • Bring good waterproof clothing and a waterproof bag for your camera and other belongings.
  • While we put in place measures to safeguard clients on safari, all activities are undertaken at client’s risk and we bear no liability or responsibility whatsoever for any injury or loss of life on the part of the client while on safari.
